THE WORLD OF BRIAN SMITH

A couple thoughts on today's games.
Carolina 29 St Louis 23
What a great game. Back and forth and back and forth. For a while I thought the Rams would win in the end after they came back from an 11 point deficet late in the game. Even if they wasted off a lot of the clock at the end of regulation, they had the momentum. This is probably the most exciting game I've ever seen with that many field goals. There were a lot of field goals. And how about Jeff Wilkins, the kicker of the Rams recovering the onside kick that he kicked. Has that ever happened before? In the end it was a Delhomme pass to Steve Smith that put the Panthers ahead for good. Where exactly did Jake Delhomme come from again? He's good.

Tom Brady isn't good. He's great. He's now among an elite handful of quarterbacks to have won their first four playoff games or more. This was the coldest game ever at New England with temperatures in the negatives. The game has evolved. If this were the Ice Bowl we would have seen a lot of running plays. Today in the year 2004, we saw a game full of passing and speedy manuvers. The play of the game in my mind was the kick out to Bethel Johnson who looked like he would go nowhere, before he turned around went across the field, recieved a great block from Brady, then darted downfield to get a first down. What do you do if you are a great play caller and you have a fourth down situation with 3 seconds left deep in your own end of the field? You certainly don't want to punt because then you are giving the other team a chance to come back, so what do you do? Toss it up.

Both excellent games all around, hoping to see some good ones tomorrow as well.
