THE WORLD OF BRIAN SMITH
Lazy
Well, as you can see, I haven't posted much the past couple weeks. I'm just tired I guess. I'm still working on my recap from the weekend before. I don't have a ton to say, just wanted a new entry.
Happy Birthday Mike Vick

Michael is now 24 years old. He has a new coach, a new system, and new weapons. I can not wait until football season begins.
He was named to Sports Illustrated’s “101 Most Influential Minorities In Sports” in May of 2003 at #77, the highest-rated current football player. This list is comprised of “men and women who are reshaping the sports industry and opening doors through which others will follow”. He was chosen to be the EA Sports cover athlete and spokesman for (John) Madden NFL 2004. Vick has always been a big fan of the game. He is the second cousin of Saints QB Aaron Brooks. He became the 11th quarterback selected with the top overall pick in the NFL draft since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 and the first African-American quarterback ever taken with the #1 overall choice. He was ironically drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 30th round of the 2000 MLB draft despite not playing baseball since the 8th grade.

Trading Shaq?
I really don't see it happening. No team is going to give up the 4 or 5 players required to make the trade work. I guess Dallas, Memphis, or New Jersey have the best chances cause they have the best players to offer LA but I just don't see it happening. There is a greater chance that Kobe leaves I guess, but I have a feeling that he'll be back too. I just have to remain optimistic cause I can't really deal with both of them leaving. Shaq will be payed 28 million this year and 30 million next year, so teams would have to get a collection of players together whose total pay is near that to make the deal even close. Is Shaq worth trading the farm too? Part of me says yes, but then whoever does pull that trigger would have a lot of holes to fill with young inexperienced players who probably don't know how to play the game right.
One Day Ago Today
I published my last post!
10 Years Ago Today
The Juice is on the loose with 10 grand, a mask, and a gun. But he wasn't trying to get away? I remember when this happened. I was at home with my parents and sister and I watched until they stopped covering it. I remember when he pulled into his house and didn't come out for the longest time. I could only think that the worse would happen and he would just commit suicide then. But that never happened. And it still never did. We had to endure however many months of trial coverage by all the major media outlets. We had to watch the verdict go down in school. It was annoying. I can't say he did it or didn't do it. But the chase made for a pretty convincing argument to prove that he did. Nobody runs away from the authorities after crimes they didn't commit.
Gmail Invites (update)
Okay it seems I have a never ending supply of gmail invites... or at least it has appeared that way. Anyone who wants one send me an email or post your name and email address and i'll send you one.
Next Year's Lakers
Okay, I've thought about it and I see this as an acceptable solution.
Phil Jackson retires.
Karl Malone retires.
Kobe Bryant is acquitted and stays.
Gary Payton stays.
Derek Fisher stays.
Shaquille O'Neal stays.
A new coach is hired (George Karl, who else is available that doesn't stink?)
Size, shooting, and depth is bought in free agency.
Fresh legs are drafted.
on another note, i am going to be using this new blog to track fantasy related sports stuff about my teams;

Gmail Invites
I'm burning right through my Gmail invites and they keep giving me more! Thats right! I had 2, then 3, then 3, then 5 and I'm almost through the 5th of this last bunch.. Oh and I'll never give one to any of you random internet people that keep emailing me about it.. I don't know you so why do I care if you get the hook up or not. Peace, I'm out!
Oh and its kinda funny. I sent out an email across the board to see if anyone was interested at work. Sales people don't know what it is or haven't heard of it. And the tech people either already have it or have expressed interest.
In All Honesty
Well, I guess now is a good time to say that Detroit is my second favorite team. Go Michigan!!!
They outplayed, outwitted, and outlasted the LA Lakers.
It's over and I am happy for Rasheed Wallace and Larry Brown.
I am glad the Lakers made it this far. To be honest, suprised. Goodbye Gary Payton! Karl, I hope that you are able to make a return, but respect whichever choice you make, Phil and Kobe, I really really really really really really really hope you can come back. As far as everyone else. (Besides Luke Walton and Derek Fisher) SEE YA!!! Nice meeting you. Rick Fox, your welcome in my crib, but you know your role now. I want Chris Duhon. I want some other quality free agents. Some shooters. Some Big Players. And I want Phil to get his tenth, Shaq and Kobe their 4th. Bring it on! I'm ready
Go Vick!
Dang!
I mean, damn! The stuff on this page gets stale if I don't post more often or something. I'm gonna have to adjust that setting.
Going Phishin!

Okay.
NOW, I am starting to get excited about this weekend's upcoming Phish shows. There is definately something different about these upcoming shows then ever before. Back in 1999 I was excited all summer to see Phish in Albany when school started. Last summer I even counted down the days like it was my birthday or something before the festival in Maine. But there's something different about this time. Phish has grown on me. I don't feel the same excitement I did before. They are officially stopping at the end of this summer. It's very possible that these shows this weekend will be the last I'll ever see them live. It's ok. I got the new cd in the mail yesterday and it has also grown on me. At first I wasn't sure, but I like it. It's fresh.
Thursday night we're going down to the Crossgates mall in Albany to see the concert from Coney Island simulcasted on the big screen. It's going to be cool. Yeah, it will be a little weird to not be at the show, but to be at the show. We'll be dancing in a movie theatre with a bunch of our closest friends. My Oneonta friends are coming. My Gloversville friends are coming. We're looking forward to it.

Friday, some close friends from high school are driving out and over to Saratoga to hang out and go to the shows in Saratoga this weekend. It will be great to see them. I haven't seen Tommy since last summer. And I haven't seen Josh and Ben since 2001 when Trey played SPAC. My sister is also driving out on Saturday and coming to the shows. Our friends Jan and Jem are coming from Philly. Bob Jones is coming up from Jersey City on Sunday. Some Foleyboard friends from Poughkeepsie, Buffalo, New Jersey, and Ottawa are also expected to stay over and pitch tents in our backyard. We're a little edgy cause we have no idea how many people are actually going to stay over or not.
Saturday and Sunday we're going to the Phish shows at SPAC. They could be our last phish shows ever if we don't go to the festival in Vermont. Our status for that still seems unlikely with the things we need to deal with going on at that same time. We have lawn seats and plan to have a good gathering of people joining us in the extreme fun that is a Phish show. Okay, maybe not extreme, but intense. I hope to meet some other foleyboard dudes while at the shows.
So I don't know. I'm finally starting to get exicted about this upcoming weekend mostly because it's this weekend. The new disc rocks. You should pick it up. I'm pumped. Hope to see you out!
It sounds simple
But it isn't.
Lakers need a couple of the following to win tonight
1. Shaq scores 50
2. Shaq gobbles up 25 rebounds
3. Kobe scores 50
4. Someone else scores at least 15
5. Kareem Rush makes 5 3-pointers
6. Karl musters up the strength to play as if its his last game ever
7. Slava doesn't suck.
8. Chauncey Billups gets knocked on his ass and breaks his ankle.
9. Rasheed gets 2 technicals and gets kicked out of the game.
10. Implementation of the Hack-A-Ben strategy. Ben Wallace is the NBA's worst FT shooter all-time.
11. Deveon George doesn't suck.
12. Luke Walton has a Bill Walton type performance.
13. Shaq makes 20-25 free throws.
14. Kobe makes more shots than he misses.
15. The Refs need to call a foul when a foul is a foul.
There are more things that need to happen but if a couple of these happen then the Lakers can force a Game 6 and bring the series back to LA. If not, then congrats go to the better team.
As Snoop would say, Ain't nothing to it but to do it.
So...
How many days until Preseason NFL starts again? haha..
Cripes
Lakers need to win tonight
and thats all there is to say about that.
Vick Offseason Update
Ahhh yes, NBA Finals. Perfect time for a Vick update!

AP reports Falcons starting QB Michael Vick was quick in his drop and even quicker with his release on Tuesday, almost always getting rid of the ball as soon as he had reached his last drop step. Vick also showed a distinct willingness to throw the ball away and take an incompletion to move on to the next play.
Ooooh!
Quarterback Michael Vick on practice“It feels good to be back out here another day, another day of learning, another productive day. We came out here and worked on a lot of situational things and those are things that we have to do to be successful in this league. It’s a good system we’re working in and I can’t say enough about it.”
Vick on adjusting to the Falcons new offense“I have adjusted. I still have to sharpen up on some things protection-wise and we’ve got all of training camp for that. I’ll use that time to make sure I have that down before our first preseason game when we open up at Baltimore. It’s a lot that I still have to work on, but not too much. I’ve pretty much got the basics down.”
Vick on what part of the system he is most comfortable with and what he needs to work on“I’m just comfortable with the system overall. Like I said (I need to work on some things) protection-wise, knowing who’s blitzing. Certain teams pick up fronts and do things a certain way, so it’s just about adjusting to the way we pick up blitzes and the way we call out protections and the way we try and pick up those schemes.”
Vick on taking something off of his throws“I have to for certain throws that we have to make in this system. You don’t have to gun the ball in there all the time; you can take something off it, which is good. It’s helpful for the receivers and it gives them an opportunity to catch the ball. No, it wasn’t difficult (to learn to do). I think all quarterbacks can adjust to making throws when you have to shoot it in there and throws you have to take something off. It’s just like throwing a check down to the running backs and tight ends, where we don’t have to throw as hard because they don’t get tight coverage. As a quarterback, it’s just something that you have to work on, but if you’re a natural quarterback, it only takes about an hour to do.”
Vick on the competitive nature of practice“Every practice almost feels like a game. You hear some coaches refer to practice as being harder than the games and I can relate to that. You get out there playing the game and everything seems to click. In practice, it seems sometimes like you’re seeing ghosts, like 13 or 14 guys are on the defense because everything is moving so fast. It’s all about competing every day, coming to practice daily, being ready to work and ready to put in that time to take this thing to another level.
Vick on Ed Donatell’s new defensive scheme“One thing they stress on the defensive side of the ball is getting takeaways, turnovers. Those are things that help you win football games in this league. The team that forces the most turnovers always ends up in the Super Bowl. If they’re stressing that, then I’m all for it. It’s going to allow the offense a chance to get the ball in the end zone more times than usual.”
Vick on throwing the ball away“Growing up as a quarterback, it almost comes naturally. Throwing the ball away is something I did last year, it’s something I did in the 2002 season, it’s something a quarterback has to do in this league or else you’re going to throw a lot of interceptions and you’re going to take a lot of shots. That’s something I realize I can’t do as I grow and I mature as my career continues. Throwing the ball away is going to be a big part of my game and taking something off of it is going to be a big part of my game. I have to adjust to the system.”
Vick on his leg“It’s feeling good. I haven’t had any problems with it the last two months. I don’t want to jinx myself, but I almost feel like it’s back to 100 percent. I haven’t had any problems. I’ve been icing it every day and doing everything I’ve been supposed to be doing: icing every day, getting treatment in the morning and icing at night, so it helps when you do what you’re told.”
Vick on Dez White“He brings a lot to the table. He’s got exceptional speed and can catch the ball. The one thing we really like about Dez is the way he runs his routes. He’s up there with the best of ‘em. He runs some of the best double-stick moves in the league. Those are things that we’re looking for Dez to bring to the table. Some big play ability, going over the top to catch some balls…that’s what I saw him do in Chicago when I watched film on him, so I think he’s going to catch a lot of balls for us and he’s going to be really valuable to us.”
Vick on what excites him most about the new offensive system“It’s just being able to become a quarterback, playing in this system that I think I’m going to play in for the next three or four years of my career, hopefully longer. That’s a blessing: to be able to stick within one system and play that system out. That way, you learn the ins and out of the system, what you can do and what you can’t do, and by the time you grow and you mature in this system, you can almost go out there and throw the ball blindfolded. Those are the things I’m excited about, just playing in one system consistently.”
NBA Finals Game 2
Oh my gosh! Last night's basketball game was so intense. The lead kept going back and forth, forth and back. Lakers had a couple runs and Pistons kept answering back. Unfortunately near the end the Pistons answered back one too many times. I could feel the game slipping away. There was a minute left, the Lakers were down by 6, and the Pistons had the ball. It was getting ugly. Then the Lakers made a stop. Shaq got the ball down low, turned and banked it, and 1. To Shaq's defense, he did make it when it counted, and now the Pistons were up by 3 with 30 seconds left. Chauncey Billups, as he easily had the entire game, deeked Fish and drove to the hoop. Fish tried to draw the offensive foul, didn't get the call, but it didn't matter cause he bricked it. Rebound Shaq. Lakers ball with 10 seconds left. Here's where the nerves were most sensible. I could feel it. Either something special was going to happen or we could basically kiss the championship good bye. It was now or forget about it. Oh baby! Intense. Inbound to Shaq. (Please don't foul) Pass to Luke, screen for Kobe. Kobe gets ball. Prince was screened, so Rip had to guard Kobe. Kobe gets his balance, matches Rip up.. goes back...lets it rip.. and BANG!! MAKES IT!!! Unbelieveable.. (Later Kobe would say that it was his second biggest shot ever, second to the shot that beat Rip's team in high school -haha-). Tie game! WOW! Pistons still have 2 seconds. They try to inbound but Luke Walton gets a fingernail on the inbound pass and Karl recovers!! Wo!! Overtime!!
In overtime the Lakers were dominate. Even with Shaq and Kobe in extreme foul trouble, it did not matter. A couple baskets each and then the MVP of the game, Luke Walton made an excellent pass to alley-oop Shaq. Luke played excellent and set a record for a rookie in his first finals game with 8 assists beating a mark previously set by none other than Magic Johnson.
What a great game. That will definately be one of those games they toss over to ESPN Classic. Hell, I would not be suprised if it becomes and Instant Classic and you can re-watch it this weekend.
Another look=>
p.s. It goes in.
Nutmeg's Rough Day
Nutmeg's day starts like any other day.
Sitting in the sun, waiting for Sara and Brian to wake.
Here she sits basking in her spot.
The cat in the sun.
And she want's food.
"Feed me, feed me"
Eventually after everything is said and done.
It is time to sleep again.
Well Dang
Everyone who i wanted to win something.. lost..
Smarty Jones and then Calgary Flames.
oh well
Let's start the Smarty Party
Smarty Jones attempts to be the first horse in 26 years to win the Triple Crown tomorrow at the Belmont.
Good luck Smarty!
Happy Iginla
Go Calgary!
(on the overtime of game 5) That may have been the only 15 minutes of hockey i have watched all year, but holy shit! that was good. i like calgary.. that doode iginla or whatever is insane! he is sick.. that one shot that he had where he was being covered by two other dudes he flips it and on the bounce friggin nailed it.. i wanted it to go in. i wanted them to score.. it was cool.
but before...
It's weird. We were talking about Happy Gilmore yesterday, and then I brought it up again.. sometimes we call our cat Trotty McGibbins.. which is a run off of various other things I will just let your imagination imagine with.. but Shooter McGavin's name was a big inspiration for the nickname and we were talking about that and the movie again today and low and behold, it's on TV.. so we watched it. it was funny again.
This blog is so half assed
It's ridic..
I just copy and paste shit from other places..
the most i do is save a picture, and upload a picture.
yeah. i just dont make time to actually sit here and type stuff into this thing. i like to play. there should be no expectations with this site. if you come here for whatever reason then cool, if you come back then that's even cooler. i have no format. i have no flavor. well. thats not true. i just havent broke it down much lately. i have before. and i'll do it again. this blog is almost 800 entries deep. and some of those entries contain entire years. id love to back date it some day. really just toss it all out there. straight up. but.. i have issues with audience and not know who i am typing to when i type into this thing. see. really.. truthfully.. i just type to myself cause im the one who this site is for and i am the one who reads it. comes to it. looks at it.. remembers it. but then, there are others.. and i know this.. so i try to make it entertaining for them and try to make it fit for all eyes.. meaning, i cant talk about sex drugs rock and roll like i really should be.. HAHA. just kidding. see? i have to say just kidding and things like that.. now, ignore this awkward silence and move on. whatever. anyway. so. here we are, today.. june whatever 2004snizzle. snizzle doesnt mean anything i just made it up. okay. i dont know. im not really going anywhere with this.. so i will just let it trail off a bit like a classic journal entry moment...
Crap
It's June already?
How did that happen?
