Okay, here is my review of Springfling. The festival I went to last weekend in Afton, NY.

The drive to Echo Lake was smooth & easy, rolled into Bainbridge and tossed around a few back roads to arrive at Springfling. There was music and there was a scene, my friends REZI were about to play.. "I'm with the band".. Theres Packy, Phil, Ned, Doink, and Greg...cool. Packy hopped in and showed my the way to the site. Parked, popped up my tent, grabbed a brew and was on my way. We jetted back to the stage mic stand in hand to catch the end of the Rhubarb set. Quality. Plugged in, setup, and was ready. Looked at my batteries and they appeared good.

They actually got on stage at their scheduled time of 10pm. There was a great audience, people were pumped and everything was good....The Neds Tune was off the hook. Then during Doink I went back to my gear to make sure everything was good and realized my batteries were in fact not good and in fact did fail. Fuck. So I lost Neds Tune and Doink. Damn. Then midway through a sick Scatterbrains jam the power went out... Packy and Mark kept it going in stylish fashion which was awesome. Finally the power came back on and they sequed into tomonari... Great show friday night.

Then saturday morning gramma joan (person responsible for this festival) asks us if we started a rumor about jerry garcia band not showing up, which we didnt... but everyone everywhere heard the rumor and we have no idea where it started....

Then their was no one playing during the day on the stage.. and about 4 bands were skipped... around 8 or so One World Tribe did their set, then Mecca Bodega played... Jerry Garcia Band played around 1 am, grandma joan told us earlier that Rezi would be playing after JGB and REZI was booked to play again saturday night around 2am... we realized that this wouldnt happen by the time JGB did play around 1am... they played for about an hour and a half and it was real good. but then the stage manager announced that Something Dank was next.... so we sat through their entire set and by the time the stage was cleared it was 5:30 AM, the sun was up and everything... Rezi took the stage at 6AM and did a great set to all the late night owls and early birds... I need to revisit the sick Electrical Storm which contained Backwash and Mr Oblivious. The set was cool, but it wasnt the plan.

The festival was overrun with people who did not care about music and only cared about getting fucked up... there were about 500 people at echo lake and maybe 25 percent of these people actually came down to the stage where the action was...

So my complaints are simple
1) if you are going to go to a festival, go for the music, not the drugs...
2) if you are behind the festival, have a schedule and stick to it... and also dont bitch about money if you overbook..

5/18/03 Jose Cuervo, Squirrelman, Sub Tea Party > Electrical Storm > Techno Jam > Backwash > Electrical Storm > Mr Oblivious > Electrical Storm

5/16/03 Urraca Mesa > Rock Out, Neds Tune, Doink, Scatterbrains -> Drum Jam* > Tomonari
